MORE BLOGTASTIC REVIEWS!

Hello Readers! Today I bring you a review of Raised By Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.

And a review of The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan.

I had planned to write a review of Aprilynne Pike's Wings - which I really enjoyed - too, but I didn't get around to it, so instead I bring you this article on bullying, which is made of awesomesauce with a side of awesome. However there is a LOT of adult language in this, so if you are under sixteen, you click at your own peril!

In other news, on Tuesday I went to Meadowhall (a special treat I had saved up for, to reward myself for finishing FF) and not only bought piles of new books, but also gorged myself at their new Sushi restaurant. I claim that this was research for my upcoming project featuring a modern Japanese heroine. Mind you, that book is not the next one I am working on. In fact, my next book is The Giant Killer Clockwork Preying Mantis Death Robot Book. So I might need to go back and refresh my memory again before I actually come to write that Japanese themed book. Hmmm...chicken katsu curry...

Anyway, if anyone is ever in the vicinity of the Sushi Yo! at Meadowhall, I highly recommend a visit. What books are you all reading now, and are you enjoying them?

'Reflecting on Faith Schools', and no. I'm not. It's not pleasure reading.

Okay I'm going back to work.

I read Wings a few months ago - I really liked the fairy lore. It helps it has a gorgeous cover. There's a second book too, although the third hasn't come out yet. I think.

Okay I'm really going back to work now, bai!

Oh, the plot for THE MERMAID'S MIRROR is very similar to another series I read when I was younger, called THE TAIL OF EMILY WINDSNAP. It is also about a girl who is torn between her mother's side of the family, which is human, and her father's, which is mermaid. Whenever she goes in the water, she is mermaid, and when she is on land, she's human. And she goes on this quest in the ocean. But I won't go into the same looooong narrative on this book as I did last time. It was a kid's book and I don't remember it that well anyway; I was like 7 when I read it.

Anyway, at the moment, I am reading CYBELE'S SECRET, by Juliet Marillier, the sequel to WILDWOOD DANCING, as I believe I have mentioned before. Well, it is quite an enjoyable book, though I'm only about 100 pages into it. The only things that I don't really like about it are the following: Well, this is hard to put into words, but I'll try... The course of events in this story is a bit... do I say predictable? Well, not entirely. The thing is, everything that goes on seems rather, um, carefully paced and they seem to play out a bit too perfectly. Carefully paced is a good thing, you might say, but it's just that nothing really unexpected just pops out of the blue and makes you rock back on your heels and read a line about three times before you can finally accept that THAT just happened. Also, the main character, Paula, is a bit too, oh, *shallow*. Well, yes, she does have *interests*, she's a scholar and good with languages and all that shhtuff, but what about her weak spots, her REAL emotions, the stuff that really makes her HER? She seems to have a sort of protective layer around her that sometimes. Makes. Me. Get. Annngryyy. The author did such a perfect job with everyone else's personalities, they're all so unique, so why can't the main character be so too? Besides, she's sorta obnoxious, which is like the worst thing in a character, besides being an utter jerk.
But so far it's good; like I said, I'm still only about 100 pages into it, so maybe some character development is in store. :) (There better be.)
Oh, six more days till THE EMERALD FLAME comes out!!!! I am sooo excited!!!! Yeee!!!

I think sometimes, in books where the other characters are really good, the main one suffers because he or she is the one the AUTHOR is closest to, which means they're harder to see objectively. *You*, the writer, think they are wonderful, but the reader does not agree!

Ha ha - I love how enthusiastic you are about counting down the days until EMERALD FLAME. I really hope it's good!

I am currently reading Tempted the 6th book in “The House of Night” series by P.C. and Kirstin Cast. You’ve probably heard of them I think they’re quite popular at the mo. Sometimes I don’t know why I continue to read the series because it frustrates me so much but then comes along a beautiful scene that makes me cry with happiness.

Can I suggest a series you might like to read if you like Gods, super powers, time travel and of course a bit of romance. I don’t know whether you’ve heard of it’s called the “The Guardians of Time Trilogy” by Marianne Curley. First book is “The Named” Second is “The Dark” and Third is “The Key”. Her stand alone novel called “Old Magic” is a good read too.

Loving all the book reviews btw.

Thanks, bfree! I've seen Marianne Curley's books but not read them yet. Good recommendation.
