I always have to edit my food descriptions down by about half. And this is one of the reasons I loved The Hunger Games - because they showed how, realistically, people who've never had quite enough to eat will be OBSESSED with food.
Nice post! I'm trying to do something like that in FP - it's mostly set in a Middle Eastern-ish culture, and I've been working on including food descriptions that reflect that.
Phoenix: It'll make you drool if you do! Just be prepared for some people to refuse to believe that your book *is* set in the Middle East, no matter how carefully you describe it!
