HAPPY HAIRCUT

Hello and Happy Friday, dear readers. Today I bring you something which is not even slightly related to books or writing in *any* way. I spent most of Thursday freaking out about a completely different topic. That topic being: my hair.

Don't all start jumping and screaming at once.

Look, I know you're as fascinated by my hair as I am, damn it! Just admit that when I tell you I chopped five inches off the length yesterday you're utterly aghast and desperate to see how it turned out!

So here are a couple of pictures of my hair as it was yesterday morning. These were really tough to take because, frankly, my hair was so long that I could hardly fit it all in:

And here are some pictures of it after I visited the hairdressers. I now have a fringe (bangs for the USians) and layers and volume and movement and nearly half a foot less hair!

There you go. A bit less princessy, but hopefully a lot less heavy and hot and likely to get trapped in car doors and ripped out. Don't cry. It'll grow back, honest.

And I know that you're desperate to get back to the Royal Wedding - off you go. Have a lovely weekend.

I love it! I'm growing my hair out to donate, hopefully in August.

Thank you, Amanda. I wish we had Locks of Love in the UK, although I'm not sure they'd want a measly five inches.

Zoe, guess what I'm reading right now?

THE WILD SWANS!

You know, I've been reading Andersen's work online ever since I read TSK, but only TODAY I realised that I have a book with his tales!!! I knew it was there, but I didn't realise 'Andersen's Fairy Tales' was referring to HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN! I am so stupid!

BUT YAY! Now I get to read The Wild Swans. And finally understand what you mean when you ask those questions on the TSK page.

I hope you enjoy them Megha! I loved my Grimm and Anderson's fairytales growing up - they made me the writer I am today.

Oh my Gosh Zoe!!! Your hair looks GORGEOUS!!!! I am so jealous. I thought it was beautiful before but the second one is still stunning.

My Google account is letting me comment again! Hurrah!

Thanks, Isabel. I'm still quite enjoying having (for me) short hair. I can go out in the wind without ending up with tangles that take half an hour to unravel, and it dries in half the time too. So long as I don't watch The Little Mermaid, or some other thing where the heroine has long and gorgeous hair, I like I'll escape without regrets.

Your hair is still relatively long, compared to some people's. It's good that this new haircut is more convenient for you. I guess it comes down to which effect you'd rather have -- the first one is ally princessy and beautiful but the second one is definitely pretty too, in a different way. I love them both. ;)

People keep saying that to me, but after two years of having ultra-long hair, it really feels ridiculously short now! I feel as if three quarters of my hair has gone. But really, it was just getting too inconvenient and I was spending so much time unknotting it, catching it in/under things and washing and conditioning and drying it, that I hardly cared what it looked like anymore. It just wanted it gone!

LOL -- I guess it would get on my nerves too. It must feel good having it under control again!

So I've hit the 18,500 word mark in my story, and this is important because 1) I am officially farther into this book than any other I have ever started -- if only right now by a few hundred words -- and I have absolutely no intention of quitting any time soon. Hurrah!!! And 2) I'm almost at 20,000 words!!! Also, I just finished chapter nine. :)

Also... I have a song recommendation, that I've been listening to nonstop while writing the last part of this chapter. It's been extremely helpful, and I find it rather fitting. It's called "Let Love Down," by Lady Gaga. It sounds like a Beatles song. ;) I love it. You can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ8inZVWhF8
